Abstract
The reaction of aromatic ketones with rare earth metals in 1,2-dimethoxyethane produces, by hydrolysis, the corresponding alcohols, pinacols and hydrocarbons depending on the metal, the ketone and the molar ratio of the reactants. The formation of the various reduced products is reversible.
