Abstract
A low dose of Lannate® ( S -methyl N -[(methylcarbamoyl) oxylthioacetimidate) topically applied to 6th-stage larvae of the western spruce budworm, Choristaneura occidentalis Freeman, caused hyperactivity, regurgitation, bleeding, and prostration, resulting in loss of hemolymph and gut fluid equaling 28% of body weight for 5th and 6th larval stages. Larvae treated with Lannate in the 6th stage showed lower pupal weights and reduced fertility in adults. Larvae treated in the 5th stage gained normal pupal weights when fed, but still showed reduced fertility.
