Abstract
Reducing Typhoid Burden within a Generation.
Highlights
A range of recent investments have aimed to improve our collective knowledge of the real burden of typhoid in endemic areas
There is an agreement on progress and reductions in typhoid burdens in parts of Latin America and Southeast Asia over the last several decades, it is notable that typhoid remains a significant disorder in South Asia[8] and remains largely underestimated in sub-Saharan Africa.[9]
Most of the data sets used in global burden estimates to date have largely relied on their models on population-based estimates from a limited number of countries and from special studies
Summary
A range of recent investments have aimed to improve our collective knowledge of the real burden of typhoid in endemic areas. The current exercise summarized in the supplement included in this issue aimed to collect and synthesize information on blood culture–proven typhoid from a range of referral hospitals and laboratories to assess recent trends and correlates of typhoid.
