Abstract

A method for reducing the computational domain size is proposed when using the finite element method for three-dimensional magnetotelluric field modeling. The proposed method is based on the fact that the higher frequency requires the smaller computational domain size. Nodal finite element method is used when calculating the magnetotelluric field at low frequencies and vector finite element method is used at high frequencies.
