Abstract

It is commonly agreed upon by healthcare professionals, that 99,000 HAI related and 8,000 SSI related deaths per year is unacceptable and that immediate improvement is essential. The technology necessary to nearly eliminate SSIs may already exist. This technology has proven effective in elimination of particle contamination in semiconductor clean rooms, allowing for nanometer size band-widths and strikingly fast communication. The primary goal of this research is to compare different air delivery methods for efficacy in reducing or eliminating microbial contamination at the surgical site.
