Abstract

Several years ago, Lord (1971 [a) and [b]) was interested in the problem of reducing the amount of time children spend doing tests. His nexilevel test was an outcome of the research into tailored test ing that became necessa ry with the increasing usc of individualized mathematics programs. Most tailored testing techniques have involved the use of a computer (Linn, Rock, and Cleary 1969), but Lord's flexilevel test overcomes this problem, possibly at some cost to the precision of the procedure.
