Abstract

Spatial and spectral mode measurements on gain-guided GaAs multiquantum-well lasers yield greatly reduced spontaneous emission K-factors in lasing modes as compared to conventional lasers. Small K-factors lead to narrow far fieldsand to nearly single longitudinal mode operation in gainguided quantum-well lasers.
