Abstract

A reduction in the ability of cytoplasmic organelles to incorporate 3H-thymidine into DNA in ageing meristem cells of Zea mays has been demonstrated autoradiographically. Whilst this may reflect the reduced capacity for organelle replication with age, the effects of an increased pool size of endogenous nucleotides cannot be excluded.
