Abstract

In this paper, we present a reduced complexity joint-source channel coding system developed for efficient and robust coding of wideband speech line spectral frequencies (LSF) parameters. Initially, the aim of this encoding system was to achieve a transparent quantization of LSF parameters for ideal transmissions over noiseless channels. It was designed based on the switched split vector quantization (SSVQ) and called "LSFSSVQ encoder". After that, our interest was drawn to the improvement of the LSF-SSVQ encoder robustness for real transmissions over a noisy channel. To protect implicitly our LSF encoder, we proposed a non-redundant joint source-channel coding system based on a reduced complexity version of the channel optimized switched split vector quantization technique.
