Abstract

Aim: Atherosclerosis is mediated by chronic inflammatory processes along with altered lipid metabolism. Spleen tyrosine kinase (Syk) serves downstream signaling of various cell surface receptors. Because previous reports showed that Syk inhibitor prevented atherosclerosis in mice, we would like to address whether Syk plays role in atherosclerosis by utilizing Syk deficient mice. Because of Syk deficient mice die in the embryonic stage, we generated conditional Syk deficient mice to investigate how deletion of Syk influenced atherosclerosis.
