Abstract

We report a redox-mediated hybrid electrocatalyst for lithium-air battery using a soluble iron phthalocyanine catalyst combined with hierarchically porous air cathode. A simple and cost-effective technique is utilized to prepare carbon-iron phthalocyanine composites. Furthermore, ball milling effect on catalytic activity of the composite is highlighted. The perovskite La0.6Sr0.4CoO3-δ, which is an effective oxygen evolution reaction catalyst, is also combined with the iron phthalocyanine to prepare a redox-mediated hybrid electrocatalyst. The prepared iron phthalocyanine-carbon and the perovskite La0.6Sr0.4CoO3-δ-iron phthalocyanine composites exhibit better catalytic activity in both oxygen reduction and oxygen evolution reaction than Pt/C, with low overpotential (0.7 V) and 100% reversibility in the tested lithium-air battery.
