Abstract

Spectrophotometric studies were carried out on the intact isolated gastric mucosa of bullfrog. The anoxic vs oxygenated difference spectrum revealed absorbtion maxima typical of respiratory chain components with some noteworthy special features. Large reductions of all the components occured upon stimulation of acid secretion by histamine while inhibition by thiocyanate was accompanied by oxidation of all components. The reductions accompanying histamine addition do not appear to be due to hypoxia.
