Abstract

Abstract Actinodon frossardi from the Lower Permian of Muse (Muse formation), Autun basin (France), represents a valid species and it is referred for the first time to the eryopid genus Onchiodon. Actinodon is a junior synonym of Onchiodon. The family name Actinodontidae is no longer used, as Onchiodon belongs to the Eryopidae. Actinodon brevis from the Muse formation of Dracy-St-Loup (France) is a synonuym of Onchiodon frossardi. A synonymy list of all the species once referred to “Actinodon”, from the Permian of France, Germany, Bohemia and India, is presented. The Onchiodon specimens from the younger Millery formation (Lower Permian) of the Autun basin probably belong to Onchiodon frossardi.
