Abstract

This paper presents the scientific collaboration network among professors of the Pos-graduation Centers in Information Science (IS) in Brazil. Such collaboration is identified from the co-authorship in papers from journals and scientific events. The main information source is the databse of the ‘RedeCI’ project (in English: “Brazilian Information Science Network”, www.redeci.netic.com.br). Such database comprises papers published in IS journals or presented in the IS Congress in Brazil, with some additional attributes for the professors (Pos graduation Center and research area). The structure of coauthorship networks was investigated at the level of professors by using all the papers existing in the‘RedeCI’ project combining statistical analysis with social network analysis (SNA). The atributes were used to complement the informations obtained by the ARS and identifying the institutionals linkages behind the coauthorship network. The results show a poorly connected network, with many partitions. The authors stress the benefits brought out by the use of SNA and the relevance of database like ‘RedeCI’ projects.
