Abstract

This comprehensive study delves into the innovative application of ChatGPT, an Artificial Intelligence (AI) model, within the realm of nursing. Through an extensive literature review spanning from November 2022 to June 2023, this research has meticulously selected and analyzed 16 out of 32 identified articles that intersect the domains of ChatGPT and nursing. The core of the study lies in assessing the multifaceted roles of ChatGPT in healthcare, primarily focusing on its utility in nursing practices. The research underscores ChatGPT's efficacy in streamlining reporting, summarization, and documentation processes in healthcare settings. Additionally, the study extends its analysis to the potential roles of ChatGPT in nursing education, patient care planning, enhancing patient communication, and facilitating language translation in multicultural healthcare environments. The paper also critically examines the ethical dimensions and future trajectories of AI integration in nursing. By offering insights into the practical and ethical implications, this study aims to pave the way for a nuanced understanding of AI's role in augmenting nursing practices, thereby contributing to improved patient care and operational efficiency in healthcare. This study reveals ChatGPT's potential in enhancing nursing efficiency and patient care, while also identifying critical areas for ethical and practical consideration.
