Abstract

Ceramic foams were prepared by using lead-zinc mine tailings (LZMT), red mud and fly as raw materials. Sodium borate acted as fluxing agent, meanwhile LZMT was also used as foaming agent. The effects of the amount of LZMT on the crystalline phase, pore morphology, physical–mechanical porosities were studied. The results showed that the ceramic foams with 18wt% LZMT sintered at 980°C exhibited excellent comprehensive properties (bulk density 0.67g/cm3, porosity 69.2%, compressive strength exceeding 7MPa and bending strength exceeding 6MPa).
