Abstract

A spectroscopic study of the green ( 4S 3 2 → 4I 15 2 ) and blue ( 2P 3 2 → 4 I 11 2 ) emissions from Er 3+:Ca 3Al 2Ge 3O 12, induced by a red tunable laser excitation is reported. The green emission is due to either an excited-state energy transfer or an excited-state absorption, depending on whether the laser excitation wavelength is tuned on 4I 15 2 → 4 F 9 2 or 4I 13 2 → 4F 5 2 The blue emission mainly results from a three-step absorption process.
