Abstract

This work intends to make an evaluation about transformations suffered by ceramic materials when they are exposed by atmospheric alteration agents. Specimens had been shaped by pressing the clay in prismatic mould and spherical form and calcinated with 600°C and 950°C. Accelerated alterations in lab and natural alteration in field had been made, by using different alteration times or intensities. Different alteration procedures in lab had been used: continuous leaching, saturation and drying cycles and ultraviolet radiation exposure. After that, these intact and weathering materials characteristic parameters had been pointed: specific mass, absorption, flexion resistance and wear by slake durability test. The results show variations in the characteristics by the processes of the ceramic alteration, which allows the prediction of the behavior material in long-term.
