Abstract

Punching shear strength of balanced slab-column connections made of two grades of Recycled Aggregate Concrete (RAC) with each grade containing selected volumetric replacement levels (0%, 50% and 100%) of recycled concrete aggregates derived from laboratory waste concrete are reported. Displacement-controlled loading tests show ultimate punching capacities to be practically insensitive to recycled aggregate replacement level though measured capacities increased with concrete grade. A Strut-and-Tie Model (STM) adapted from the literature for rational estimation of RAC punching capacities gave conservative and reasonably accurate prediction of results of this and other investigations reported in the literature whereas overly conservative predictions were obtained from selected current design codes.
