Abstract
This Dutch study documents the response of patients with ventricular fibrillation (VF) to defibrillation in the pre-hospital and emergency setting using 2000 Advanced Life Support (ALS) guidelines. There were 467 patients with ventricular fibrillation enrolled prospectively, and their response to three stacked shocks of 200 J, 200 J, and 360 J as part of ALS protocol was monitored for termination of VF and sustained organized rhythm. Ninety-two percent, 61%, and 83% of VF was terminated within the first three shocks, respectively.
