Abstract

Subluxation of the peroneal tendons in both the adult and pediatric populations is a relatively uncommon diagnosis. While there are numerous publications concerning management of this issue in adults, there is a paucity of data in regard to children and adolescents posing a treatment challenge when conservative management fails. The presence of open physes precludes usage of certain well-defined and accepted surgical procedures. Although surgical options exist for this population, long-term outcome data regarding results of such procedures are lacking. Recent data suggest that peroneal transposition beneath the calcaneofibular ligament after detachment from its proximal aspect can produce good clinical outcomes with limited recurrence of subluxation, although more research and longer follow-up are clearly needed.
