Abstract

Introduction: The laparoscopic surgical approach for the treatment of women with recurrent ovarian cancer is still controversial. Although minimal-invasive surgical techniques have been used in gynecologic oncology since more than 20 years, it is not the first choice in the treatment of ovarian cancer. Given the risk of spillage of cancer cells especially in the area of the trocars and complications relating to possible abdominal adhesions from previous surgeries, a laparoscopic management is not usually considered as initial treatment. Nevertheless, selected patients may benefit from minimal-invasive treatment regarding the duration of hospitalization, a shorter postoperative recovery time and less discomfort.
