Abstract

Background: Metastases to the breast from non-mammary primary tumours are uncommon and account for 0.5-2.0% of all breast malignancies. Renal cell carcinomas (RCC) (historically also known as hypernephroma or Grawitz tumour) are primary malignant adenocarcinomas derived from the renal tubular epithelium and are the most common malignant renal tumour. Metastatic renal cell carcinoma to the breast is very rare, with 23 cases published in the literature. We present a patient with a history of previous RCC treated surgically who has developed three recurrences of metastatic RCC to the same breast.
