Abstract
This report concerns a recurrent malignant melanoma of the iris which was histologically proved 18 years after initial removal by iridectomy. Report of Case History. —A 45-year-old white female had been aware of a small gray lesion on her left iris in the inferior temporal quadrant from early childhood. During a pregnancy in 1945, hemorrhage had occurred from the tumor. Iridectomy was performed and the specimen sent to the Army Medical Museum. The diagnosis at that time was leiomyoma, incompletely excised. Shortly after another pregnancy in 1951 the patient became aware of a dark spot at the limbus adjacent to the surgical coloboma. This was observed periodically by several ophthalmologists. During the summer of 1962 the patient became aware of a new lesion within the coloboma. Examination on Sept 4, 1962, showed an iris coloboma in the left eye between 3:30 and 6:00 with an adjacent light-brown elevated subconjunctival mass
