A patient who received smallpox vaccinations to treat a recurrent genital herpes simplex virus infection had development of recurrent herpes at the vaccination site while his genital lesions continued unabated. Until smallpox vaccine is removed from the general market or reclassified as a restricted biological, the inappropriate use of this agent will continue. (JAMA1982;247:2704-2705)
