Abstract

Carotid body tumors (CBTs) affect the chemoreceptors located in the carotid artery bifurcation, and ∼30% will present bilaterally. We report a rare case of bilateral CBTs. The left-side CBT was recurrent after a failed complete excision attempt. Staged surgical excision of both CBTs was planned. Such cases present a real surgical challenge for the surgeon and surgical team. They require meticulous preoperative evaluation, careful operative dissection, prompt decisions, and a multidisciplinary approach for successful outcomes.
