Abstract

Calcifying aponeurotic fibroma (CAF) is a rare benign soft tissue tumor that occurs in the distal limbs of children and adolescents, with no obvious clinical symptoms in the early stage, but with the growth of volume and involvement of the surrounding tissues, it may present with clinical symptoms such as activity limitation, pain and discomfort, etc. CAF is usually treated by surgical excision, but it is very prone to recurring after the surgery, and the rate of local recurrence can be up to 40–50 %. In our study, we admitted a patient with CAF of the plantar foot, after 4 years of follow-up, two masses with similar ultrasound features compared to the previous ones were seen again in the plantar foot, which was considered as a recurrence of CAF. we collected his clinical, imaging, and pathological findings and reviewed previous similar cases to improve clinicians’ understanding of the disease.
