Abstract

In this paper, we propose a basic rectification circuit based on the single wire transmission. The concept of single conductor transmission of electricity was for the first time proposed by Nikola Tesla almost more than a century ago. However, research related to capturing electromagnetic energy from a single wire into a DC voltage is lacking. Single wire transmission scheme from Tesla was based on high voltage and low frequencies. Instead, our methodology of single wire transmission is based on high frequencies and low voltages. In order to realize the proposed single wire transmission scheme, a CPW/Goubau line transition has been designed to transfer electrical energy from the coaxial cable to the single wire. Two SMS7630 diodes are added to rectify the captured electromagnetic energy at high frequencies. According to our experiment, when input power is 0 dBm, 1 GHz, a dc output voltage of 0.5 V can be attained.
