Abstract

AbstractDynamic mechanical analysis is a common and important method for rheological characterization of polymeric materials. By adapting the sensitive fluids load cell and motor set on the Rheometrics System Four to a rectangular torsion geometry, one is able to measure dynamic shear modulus of thin strips as a funciton of frequency and temperature over a wide modulus range. In studies on plasticized poly vinyl chloride, we were able to characterize samples over the entire primary transition region—from glassy through the leathery and into the rubbery plateau.
