Abstract

In this paper, a circular patch monopole antenna is proposed for super wideband (SWB) application. The SWB property is achieved by tapering the ground plane and feedline as well. In addition, a rectangular parasitic patch is placed beneath the radiator which downshifts the lower cut-off frequency from 1.1 to 0.78 GHz and results in size miniaturization of around 54%. The measured result shows that the proposed antenna offers 170.2% impedance bandwidth with an almost stable radiation pattern. Further, in order to achieve the tri-band notch characteristic, two U-shape slots and a split ring-shaped slot are introduced in the radiator and ground plane, respectively. By doing so, the proposed antenna exhibits triple-band rejection at GSM-900 downlink/1800, together with Wi-Fi 2.1 and WiMAX and downlink of C-band while maintaining SWB performance.
