Abstract

The recruitment of noncycling bone marrow stem cells into mitosis over a seventy-two hour period was observed in mice populations injected with vinblastine. One per cent of the total bone marrow stem cell population does not enter mitosis over this time period. Single and split radiation dose studies on noncycling bone marrow stem cells demonstrate single-hit kinetics with reduced or absent capacity for sublethal injury repair. These observations are of value in planning treatment regimens involving cycle-active chemotherapeutic agents.
