Abstract

A central task of wilderness recreation resource management is to reconcile diverse objectives. While satisfaction of demand for recreation services is clearly one goal underlying the provision of public park facilities, decision makers are also required to consider the importance of protecting the ecosystem of the park, to avoid levels of congestion likely to jeopardize the quality of the recreation experience and to observe society's conceptions of equity regarding park use.
