Abstract

The Forestry Commission of New South Wales (N. S. W.), Australia, is a major land resource manager in the State of N. S. W. and as such provides a considerable recreation resource for the most populated State in the country. The Dungog Sub-District of the Forestry Commission is a major attraction to tourists and outdoor recreation enthusiasts because of its mountain scenery, vegetation, including sub-tropical rainforest and Antartic Beech, streams, picnic and camping facilities and accessibility. To assist managers in updating the management plan for several State Forests in the sub-district, a visitors' survey was undertaken. A considerable amount of information concerning management practices, preferred recreation experiences, and socio-demographic information about the area was collected.
