Abstract

An attempt is made to provide a statement of the problem with respect to mammalian recovery rate estimations. The few concepts on which there is now general agreement, as well as some of the many concepts on which there is widespread disagreement, are poirted out. It is hoped that this approach may contribute to the solution of the problem by defining it and by emphasizing areas where more data are needed and other areas where novel approaches are required.
