Abstract
A record is an identifiable object that contains items which define it. These items are linked under a common grouping. For example, an electrical circuit has certain properties that define it. These could be: A circuit title. Circuit components with identifiable names. Circuit components with known values. For example, a circuit may have a title of ‘RC Filter Circuit’, the circuit components are named ‘R1’, ‘R2’ and ‘C1’ and the values of these are 4320 Ω, 1200 Ω and 1 µF, respectively. The title and the component names are character strings, whereas the component values are floating points. A structure (or record) groups these properties into a single entity. These groupings are referred to as fields and each field is made up of members.
