Abstract

A method for recording simultaneous spike trains from two independently maneuverable electrodes in awake monkeys is described. Utilizing the Cartesian coordinate system, two compact independent micromanipulators and hydraulic microdrives were designed to attach to a large-diameter recording chamber. The chamber was filled with low melting-point wax which minimized brain pulsation and allowed multiple electrode entries without loss of hydrostatic seal, thereby assuring recording stability over extended time periods. An example of simultaneous spike trains from two distinct cortical areas is presented.
