Abstract

We described the first record of capture and possible predation on Rhinella icterica (cururu toad) by Cerdocyon thous (crab-eating fox) using camera traps in a particular protected area located in Triunfo municipality, Rio Grande do Sul state, Brazil. We obtained two videos of this event, with the first one showing the crab-eating fox probably preying the cururu toad, and the second showing the canid with the cururu toad in its mouth, holding it by the hind leg. This event demonstrated that the crab-eating fox may employed some ability to capture and eat toxic amphibians like cururu toad.
