Abstract

Scientific inquiry in historical geography also focuses on the research of prehistoric and historic landscape and its use. One of the procedures by which it can be done, is the study of profile/profiles of a cultural-landscape layer of a local area. The research of the scientific literature shows that the historical land use and multi-temporal analysis belong to the most widely used methods of research of longterm changes in the landscape. Many cultural and social geographers, landscape ecologists, etc., apply them in their works. To a lesser extent, these procedures also appear in historical geography. The method of profiles of cultural-landscape layers is an alternative, which can supplement a range of procedures used in evaluating the landscape transformation. The article discusses the genesis of the industrial landscape of the town Nováky and its hinterland in the southern part of Prievidzská Basin by the study of profiles of the cultural-landscape layers of the area. The investigated territory belongs to Ponitrianska affected area with a low-quality environment, which has been influenced by chemical and mining industry from the second third of the last century.
