Abstract

A detailed analysis is made of the problems related to the reconstruction of refractive-index profiles from transverse interferograms of the axisymmetric objects. The disturbance introduced by the immersion–air separating window is taken into account, and the modified formulas for accurate interferometric data reduction are evaluated. These formulas confirm the validity of the strict and explicit differential relationship derived earlier [ Appl. Opt.25, 3473 ( 1986)] between the interference-fringe shift distribution and the deflection function, the applicability of which is independent of the magnitude of light refraction.
