Abstract

The lithologic characters (based on size analysis) of the subsurface sediments of Rosetta and Damietta promontories have permitted the reconstruction of five sedimentary units. These, starting from the top, are: fine and very fine sand, silty sand-muddy sant, mud deposits, muddy peat deposits and medium sand. Environmental interpretation of these units was undertaken based on the application of some of the various principal methods of interpreting grain size data. These include grain size distribution curves, principal component factor analysis, C-M diagram and scatter diagrams.
