Abstract

A case of severe electrical burn of the scalp, complicated by a devitalized skull and an epidural abscess, is reported. In the first stage operation, a free parascapular flap combined with a local transposition scalp flap and skin grafts were used to cover the large defect. In the second stage operation, a wire mesh-methyl methacrylate was used as the material of cranioplasty. It is the first report of reconstruction of a large scalp and skull defect by the combined use of a free parascapular flap, a transposition scalp flap and a wire mesh-methyl methacrylate. A brief review of papers was presented also.
