Abstract

This paper presents a method which reconstructs the time-varying 3D shape with a known period with high accuracy. As an actual example, the reconstruction of the 3D dynamic shape of the left ventricular inner cavity is considered. In the proposed method, contour information from multiple viewpoints is integrated, and not only an apparently reasonable, but also a highly accurate 3D dynamic shape model is obtained, which has been difficult if based on a small number of viewpoints. This method will promote more accurate diagnosis of cardiac functions. Usually, only a fragmented contour is extracted from the X-ray cineangiocardiogram. In order to cope with this problem, direct fitting of the closed surface model is considered, using a B-spline which is similar to the deformable model. An experiment is tried for the synthesized image sequence and the real image sequence of a balloon with known shape, and the usefulness of the proposed method is demonstrated. The result of application to an actual left ventricular angio-graphic image sequence is also shown. © 1998 Scripta Technica, Syst Comp Jpn, 29(12): 34–45, 1998
