Abstract

The concept of reconfigurability in antennas and their types are discussed in detail in this paper. Novel reconfigurable antenna structures for modern wireless communication application are presented. PIN diodes that are biased with on-board biasing circuitry are used to achieve reconfigurability in these antennas. Full electromagnetic and transient analysis is carried out for RF and time domain modeling. The developed reconfigurable antennas include the frequency reconfigurable antennas, radiation pattern reconfigurable antennas, and polarization reconfigurable antenna. Developed reconfigurable antennas are characterized for RF and switching characteristics.
