Abstract

Recombination of I atoms was studied, by flash photolysis, in the presence of an excess of H2, HD, and D2, between 300 and about 580 °K. The recombination rate constants were summarized by the following equations: logkrH2=9.686 − 2.054 log(T/300),logkrHD=9.617 − 1.737 log(T/300),logkrD2=9.547 − 1.772 log(T/300).The variation in rate constants with isotopic substitution of the third body suggests that the recombination proceeds via the energy transfer mechanism. It is also consistent with earlier trajectory studies on the third body mass effect in recombination reactions.
