Abstract

AbstractPhotoconductivity (p.c.) and photomagnetoelectric effect (p.m.e.) are observed in tellurium at high levels of optical excitation by means of a Q‐switched ruby laser. The characteristics observed for the stationary case are analysed in terms of a spatial distribution of carriers governed by diffusion and interband Auger recombination. The coefficient of Auger recombination in tellurium C = 1.5 × 10−28 cm6 s‐l is obtained.
