Abstract

Objective: Endometriosis (endo) is associated with chronic inflammation, including an increased number and activation of macrophages with increased secretion of cytokines such as TNF-alpha. We propose that neutralization of TNF-alpha with TBP-1 can reduce the endo-associated inflammation and inhibit the development of endo lesions. In rats, r-hTBP-1 can inhibit the development of endo lesions (D’Antonio et al., J Reprod Immunol 2000;48:81–98). In this study we tested the hypothesis that r-hTBP-1 can inhibit the development of endo lesions and adhesions in the baboon, an established model for the study of endo (D’Hooghe, Fertil Steril 1997;68:613–625).
