Abstract

Gerrn plasm of native legumes with forage potential was coIlected in Honduras in February 1989. Four hundred and twenty-seven seed samples were taken from 14 out of the 18 departments of the country. More than 80% of fue samples corresponded in descending order of number of samples to the genuses Centrosema, Desmodium, Aeschynomene, Stylosanthes, Vtgna, Macroptilium, Teramnus, Calopogonium and Galactia. Natural distribution of the nine Centrosema species that were identified as native to Honduras is discussed, and distribution maps are presented. The need for additional missions to coIlect germ plasm, mainly from regions presenting a major danger for genetic erosion, is stressed.
