Abstract

Doctor of nursing practice (DNP) clinicians have a critical role to play in improving nursing practice through clinical inquiry. DNP-prepared clinicians must be able to quickly translate new knowledge into clinical practice to effectively care for patients and provide safe and optimal outcomes. The ability to address contemporary and future practice issues and concerns requires that DNP graduates work from a strong scientific foundation in their practice (American Association of Colleges of Nursing, 2006). Quality outcomes may be achieved using many different methods of clinical inquiry such as evidence-based practice, quality improvement, quality improvement science, or research as defined in Table 1. The purpose of this article is to inform DNP-prepared clinicians for the use of new knowledge, and related ethical issues, to provide high-quality health care, initiate change, and improve evidence-based nursing practice.]
