Abstract

Conflict between patients, parents and health professionals can be upsetting, damaging to patient care and have long-lasting impact on relationships between a treating team and the family of a sick baby, child or young person. The Evelina Resolution Project, a three year pilot project at the Evelina London Children's Hospital, has been designed to train health professionals at all levels to recognize the triggers and warning signs of conflict and learn skills and strategies to help de-escalate and resolve it. The aim of this project has been to test whether this approach increases the chance of resolving potentially serious breakdowns in communication between families and health professionals.
