Abstract

The concept of child sexual abuse is so repulsive to most physicians and lay persons that to view the topic scientifically and nonjudgmentally is difficult. The article by Krugman in this issue is informative and should help the pediatrician in identifying cases he otherwise would have missed. The position taken by Krugman is relatively simple and safe. He recommends that the practitioner search for and report all cases of known or suspected child sexual abuse. If the pediatrician does this, he is protected by law. If he does not, he is risking legal penalties or a malpractice suit. When dealing with a possible child rapist or sadist, no reasonable person would question Krugman's recommendations.
